Always Start Standing
I start every single boudoir shoot standing. I know some of you might be thinking that’s crazy, but I promise it is just the opposite! Here are my top reasons for always starting standing:
Your client will be nervous when you first start shooting, and as a result, her body will be tense. Standing poses can easily disguise a stiff body more so than lying down or sitting shots can. (if you haven’t grabbed my number #1 posing tip yet, definitely do so here because it completely ties into this tip too!)
Lying down shots will always be your client’s favorite images, so why start with them? You want to give your client time to get comfortable during her shoot before selling yourself short on what should be your most profitable images!
It’s incredibly easy to get nice detail + body shots when she is standing. Those are great images to show her off the back of the camera so she gets more comfortable and excited for the shoot right away. As I always say, time is money. If you aren’t using every minute of your shoot to get killer shots, what’s the point?
So there you have it! Quick and simple. If you aren’t starting with standing shots, give it a try! Let me know if you see the amazing results in getting your client comfortable right away.
