Tell me about the lingerie shopping process, was it hard, was it fun? Where did you go?
So fun and a very new experience for me! Annika’s suggestions via my personalized Pinterest Board were so helpful and insightful as she helped to highlight certain looks that complimented my body type and gave further suggestions after I sent some pictures with different pieces. My MOH and I went to Forty Winks in Cambridge, spending a few hours in the boutique and having an absolute blast trying on different looks, it was a memorable afternoon, to say the least. After some time, I gained a better understanding of what I felt sexy in / what looked best on me along with having fun with pairing different looks (sexy, cute, flirty, etc.). It changed my perspective in buying lingerie as before I would buy things mostly online without putting much thought into my body type and what was best for me!
How were you feeling before you entered the studio/shooting location for the first time, nervous, excited, etc?
Very nervous at first, but I also knew that the experience was going to be awesome! My first consultation with Annika, in addition to our communication leading up to the event, was so positive!
What was your favorite lingerie look? Was it one you expected, or were you surprised by the piece that ended up being your favorite? My favorite look included a black lacy kimono that I’ve had in my closet for years but rarely wear. I paired it with a corset and high waisted panties. The pictures had a French-flair to them, and it was a side of personality that was fun and flirty but also SO sexy! The back shots with the kimono were amazing, it looked like a picture from another era and European!
What inspired you to choose your makeup look?
My fiancé always tells me that he thinks I am sexiest with a natural face without makeup, so I knew I wanted to keep it simple while also making a statement for this experience. I LOVED my makeup; the lashes and shadow made my green eyes pop while keeping it subtle and classy. We talked about going bold with red lipstick but decided to keep it more in the family of what I usually wear. The makeup/hair was SO fun, being pampered and enjoying girl talk!
How did you feel leaving your boudoir session? Excited, empowered, sexy?
Yes, yes, and yes! Exactly the words I would use. I had so much fun showing close friends pictures and was glowing about the experience!
What was your first thought when seeing how you looked in your photos? Have you noticed a mental shift in the way you view your body since doing the shoot?
Seeing the images through the lens of how others see me (specifically in a raw, vulnerable state) was nerve-wracking at first, just because it was so new! I thought it would be uncomfortable reviewing the photos, but I felt so decisive (which I usually am not!) about what I liked/didn’t like. I felt that each image and look told a story about me and my personality, especially my bold side, which was so cool!
If you did the session as a gift for someone, is/was it hard keeping it a secret? How are you planning on presenting the gift to your sweetie?
The pictures will be a gift to my fiancé on our wedding day in November. This is the biggest surprise I have ever kept from him (for reference I completely blew his 30th birthday this year!). I am going to give him a teaser while he is getting ready, and share the rest with him after the night is over. I’m asking our photographer to get a shot of him with the teaser; I picturing his face in complete shock and I know he will love it. The pictures are so intimate and really speak to that aspect of our relationship that we share together.
Would you do another session?
Yes! For another occasion, maybe, maternity or something like that!
