Summer Skincare Tips

Through every season change, I always end up changing part of my skincare routine. Living in Boston, we experience a lot of different temperatures and humidity levels. It can leave our skin feeling dry. Just as you change your wardrobe for the summer, you should be changing your skincare! Here are a few of my favorite things to do every summer.

Sunscreen

I know summer is all about being tan but it’s so important to have a good sunscreen for the summer. It’s one of my number one skincare products that I switch up in the summer. I always like to apply it in the winter too but I usually look for something with at least an SPF of 30. Be sure to look for a broad-spectrum sunscreen, these offer you protection from UVA, UVB, and infrared rays. When you are in the sun for a long time, it’s important to reapply every few hours. In the winter we are usually found inside but summer days we can be outside for the whole entire day. Reapplying will help ensure you don’t burn!

If you do burn a bit, don’t worry! There are so many great aloes and lotions that will help reduce swelling and inflammation. Be sure to keep the burn moisturized and drink plenty of water.

Swap Out Moisturizers

During the winter months, I love a thicker moisturizer. My skin feels dry and thirsty those months so something rich usually satisfies that for me! But, during the warmer months, it is just too much. A richer moisturizer can be too much in the heat and humidity. Look for a lighter moisturizer or a serum that will feel lighter on your skin.

Exfoliate

One way to ensure your moisturizer is doing its job is to exfoliate regularly. It’s great for removing dead or dry skin cells, sweat, dirt, and any other toxins in our pores. It leaves your skin feeling so incredibly smooth! I love to exfoliate in the shower and moisturize when I get out.

If you are looking for super-smooth legs, try exfoliating before you shave. It’s a summer must for me.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is not only great for boosting your immune system but it is so amazing for your skin as well! It actually acts as an antioxidant and helps stimulate the collagen that is in your skin. If you have pigmentation spots, Vitamin C will actually help minimize those spots for you. I love using it for giving my skin a beautiful glow and helping out the texture of my skin.

Water

Staying hydrated is so important, especially during the summer months! When you are constantly on the go and in the heat, it’s easy to get dehydrated. Drink lots of water to keep yourself from getting dehydrated and it will help keep your skin moisturized!
