Waxing 101
One of my favorite things about spring and summer is the fashion that comes with those warm temperatures. I love being able to wear dresses and skirts. The downside of less clothing and warmer temperatures means keeping up with hair removal more often. It can be quite the pesky task that not everyone loves - myself included! Whether you are looking to get waxed just for the summer, or for your next boudoir session, here are a few of my favorite tips to get you through your wax.
Exfoliate
When it comes to waxing, exfoliating is a must! It is not only great for getting rid of dry skin but it’s great for reducing ingrown hairs. Sometimes, waxing can cause ingrown hairs so exfoliating on a regular basis will help you eliminate the risk. Exfoliating is great for making your skin feel so soft!
If you are not a wax lover and love to shave, exfoliating is great for that too! It’s recommended exfoliate before you shave, not after.
Moisturize
With warmer weather here, it’s important to moisturize to help prevent dry skin. Moisturizing will not only help keep your skin moist but help for an easier wax. It will help prevent and reduce any bumps after your wax as well. I love staying moisturized in the summer especially because I am showing off more skin. There is nothing worse than being able to see how dry your own skin is.
See A Professional
I’m all for at home skincare but if you are new to waxing, I recommend seeing your favorite spa or esthetician to get your wax done professionally. If you are waxing for a session, you don’t want to run the risk of burning yourself. I can always edit your skin but no one wants to suffer through a painful burn. A professional will also recommend products and tips that will work best for your skin type!
Grow Out Your Hair
This is the part of waxing that most people hate but you want the wax to properly cling to your hair. You don’t want it to be too short or too long. Try to aim for about 3/4 inch long. It will help ensure that your esthetician gets all the hair out during your wax.
Manage the Pain
For some, waxing is more painful than for others. It all depends on your skin sensitivity. If you love waxing but can’t handle the pain, look into different pain management tools that you can use before you wax. Some spas offer numbing gels that you put on about ten minutes before your appointment. A lot of ladies like to pop an Advil or Tylenol before their appointment to help keep the pain to a manageable level. Just remember, it’s usually a quick appointment so you won’t have to deal with the pain for too too long!
These are just a few tips to help you get the best wax possible. Whether you are on team wax or team shave, hair removal can be an annoying process and I hope these tips can make the process a little bit easier for you.
