Easy Tips For Caring For Your Lingerie
From bras and panties to silk slips and lace lingerie, our favorite unmentionables can be hard to care for! For years, I thought you just threw everything in the wash and dryer and then wondered why everything was looking beat up so much faster. They are usually made of so many different fabrics, from silk to satin to cotton and lace. They are all beautiful and feminine and we want to keep them looking beautiful for as long as possible.
Taking good care of your lingerie will not only keep them looking pretty for longer but will help you from having to repurchase those items again and again. Your wallet will thank you! Here are a few simple tips to remember.
Always check the tag
Look at the care label on each piece. It may seem like a no brainer but it can be easy to overlook. They labels are there to tell you how to take care of your items the best way possible. Don't ignore the label! I promise, if you do exactly as the label says you will find that your pieces are lasting longer than normal.
If you are anything like me, you've probably already snipped the tag off so it doesn't bother you. You can either keep note of what the care label says or you can totally play it safe by skipping the washer and hand washing the item.
Keep the fabric in mind
Usually, lingerie needs a little bit more care than your favorite tee and ripped jeans. They are made of more delicate fabrics like silk and lace. Keep in mind that some sensitive fabrics will require more of a hands on cleaning approach. Some pieces may require dry cleaning. Just be sure to read the label before washing.
Detergents
When using a detergent on your lingerie, be sure to use a liquid and mild detergent. You should be able to find one that is specifically made for delicates. It has a more gentle formula and won't be quite as harsh on those delicate pieces. If you are ever short on detergent, baby shampoo will do the trick!
If you have have a stain or spot on your lingerie, don't use bleach! Bleach is way too harsh and damaging on those delicate fabrics. Try pre-soaking your items first.
Skip the dryer
I'm guilty of always throwing my bras in the dryer but I always recommend skipping the dryer and hanging your lingerie out overnight to dry. When you skip the dryer you don't have to worry about shrinking or elastic deteriorating with heat.
