Meditation Tips
I never thought that meditation would be part of my daily routine. For so long I always thought I just didn't have time for it being a busy, creative entrepreneur. The busier and busier I got I always felt like there was something I needed to reset my brain after a long and busy day. Here are a few meditation tips to help get you started.
Starting Small
There is nothing wrong with starting small. If you start off right away with a full 20 minutes you may find your mind wandering quickly. It takes time and practice to get there. Start small and work your way up. Set a goal for the first week to just get a few minutes each day of meditating. It may seem a bit strange when you first start but I promise that the more you do it the more natural that it will feel. There will be distractions and sometimes it can be hard to really let your mind go. Start with small manageable number, even if it just two minutes.
Get Cozy
It may seem silly but think about where you want to start meditating. Having a comfortable space that you feel safe in is really important. Being comfortable will help you sit for a longer period of time. If you are uncomfortable from the start, you may not last very long.It be easier to let distractions in and take you away from your meditation practice. So pick a spot that you feel really comfortable in. Whether it is a corner in your bedroom or your favorite chair and dedicate it to your meditation. You can even make it more comfortable by adding in pillows and blankets.
Routine
When it comes to meditation, it's best if you create a routine. You want to make sure that you are sticking to the same location and time frame each and everyday. It doesn't have to be completely perfect but slowly your body will start to get used to it and it will just become part of your daily routine. Choose your meditation space wisely! Choose a space that lets you be comfortable and focus on your breath. The more you sit in that area the easier it will be for you to get into your meditation mode. Be sure that space is relaxing and comfortable.
Breathing
Remember to breath! It may seem a little silly but be sure to start out you meditation practice focusing on your breath. Your mind will wander but when you notice just bring it back to focusing on your breath. The more you focus on your breath the less you will worry about day to day things. Try to breath deep and slow, will help slow down your heart rate and keep you relaxed.
These are just a few tips to help you with your meditation practice. It's something that I am constantly working on so it's okay if you are not perfect on the first day. What are some of your favorite tips when it comes to meditation?
