Washing Your Thigh Highs: A How-to Guide
Taking the time to properly wash your hosiery is another crucial method of ensuring that they, along with your confident swagger, last as long as possible. Here at VienneMilano, we recommend two methods for washing your thigh highs: one that uses a machine washer, and one that uses your hands.
How to Machine Wash Your Hosiery
Step 1 — Make sure you have a mesh lingerie wash bag
Step 2 — Make sure you have a detergent that is specially designed for the gentle/delicate cycle
Step 3 — Turn your tights inside out
Step 4 — Place them in the wash bag
Step 5 —Add the gentle/delicate cycle detergent to your machine
Step 6 — Wash tights on the gentle/delicate cycle, in cold water
Step 7 — Once the cycle is finished, gently remove your tights from the bag — washing your tights with your bras is not recommended, as the bra’s hooks can catch on them and cause runs
Step 5 — Lay your tights flat and let them dry flat — never use a machine dryer to dry out your tights, as this will cause the silicone bands to melt
Step 6 — Look fabulous in your thigh highs!
How to Hand Wash Your Hosiery
Step 1 — Make sure you have a wash basin
Step 2 — Make sure you have a gentle/delicate cycle detergent
Step 3 — If you are wearing any jewelry on your hands, remove it
Step 4 — Fill the basin with cold water
Step 5 — Mix in a tablespoon of gentle/delicate cycle detergent
Step 6 — Mix in a tablespoon of baking soda
Step 7 — Turn your tights inside out
Step 8 — Place the tights in the basin
Step 9 — Allow the tights to soak for 10 minutes
Step 10 — Gently squeeze, rub, and scrunch tights together in order to remove dirt
Step 11 — Gently remove the tights from the basin
Step 12 — Lay your tights flat and let them dry flat — never use a machine dryer to dry out your tights, as this will cause the silicone bands to melt
Step 13 — Look fabulous in your thigh highs!
Now you are armed with the tactics necessary to combat wear and tear on your stay ups. Keep strutting!
