Why Full Coverage Underwear is a NO

There are some things you should never try to make work in boudoir. They just don’t translate in camera and are NOT flattering. Full coverage underwear is one of those things.

Now, even though most women own at least a few full coverage undies, they don’t bold well for boudoir for a number of reasons. And even though they are a bit sexier than the old school cotton ones with lace and sheer options nowadays, they still shouldn’t be worn for a shoot!

So let’s dive into WHY full coverage doesn’t work for boudoir:

Every single woman you photograph will want an incredible booty shot. Plain and simple. So what makes a good booty shot? The overall shape and plumpness of the bum, of course! You want to show off a full booty and a small waist, regardless of your client’s body shape. Full coverage underwear doesn’t leave room for the cheeks to come out underneath them, which leaves the booty looking much flatter and smaller than it actually is. Underbutt is what creates the fullness of the booty in pictures. I mean if you think about it, it is very hard making a booty look curvy when literally no part of it is visible!

Some of your clients will gravitate towards full coverage bottoms thinking it will hide their stomach or love handles, etc. While that may be true, full coverage bottoms are still not the answer. I recommend my clients go with high waisted thong or cheeky bottoms instead. These will give your client the coverage they are seeking, while still showing off the best parts of the booty!

Your clients might also think that underwear that is looser will be better since it won’t dig in anywhere or leave marks. However, bagginess in underwear can turn very unflattering very quickly! Form-fitting is always more flattering when it comes to boudoir, regardless if your client is a size 2 or 22.

So I suggest your clients leave their full coverage underwear for laundry day but don’t you let them wear it during their boudoir shoot!
